An interdisciplinary product design firm

 

In January 2013 in Graz, Austria, Martin Lesjak, CEO of INNOCAD Architecture and 2015 Contract Magazine’s Designer of the Year, co-founded with designer Anastasia Su, the product design firm 13&9. In addition to being intricately linked to INNOCAD Architecture, 13&9’s interdisciplinary team’s cooperation with specialist partners has led to creating product collections from concept through production in the spheres of lighting, furniture, floor coverings, fashion and accessories.

Their work relies on the interplay between architecturally-inspired forms and fashion and explores issues such as modularity, compatibility, flexibility and transformation in development of new products. The overall results are unique designs that combine functional necessities and innovations with conceptual aesthetics, which also offer an emotional component, adding to the product value, “the soul” of 13&9 Design. The creative community at 13&9 is both a design studio for international companies – VITEO OUTDOORS, XAL, LANDE, WEVER & DUCRÉ, ROBERT LA ROCHE, and MOHAWK GROUP – and its own label which produces and sells their own products.

Recently 13&9 has received numerous awards for its business practices and innovative designs. In June 2015 the team was honored with Austria’s Born Global Champion Award from the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. Their modular carpet tiles called MOVING FLOORS received the Best of Neocon Gold Award 2015 and Best of Neocon Editor´s Choice Award by Contract Magazine and Metropolis Magazine Likes Award. Additional accolades for other products include: DIAMOND SHADES – Red Dot Award 2015 and A’ Design Award 2015 – LOW COLLECTION – iF Produkt Design Award 2014 – and ROCK LIGHT – finalist for the Interior Design‘s Best of Year Awards 2014. Their GEOMETRIC Jewelry collection has been selected by the MUSEUM of ART and DESIGN’s LOOT show in September 2015.

After first presenting their work in the US market in May 2013, 13&9 immediately received attention for its eclectic and highly varied product collections and original design philosophy.
